Still mixing up b and d? Try bacon and donut.
The trick nearly 2 million people have watched — now as a free printable card for your fridge, folder, or desk.
Bacon is long and straight — just like the tall straight line in a lowercase b.
A donut is round all the way through — just like the loop in a lowercase d.
- Picture breakfast. Bacon, then a donut — in that order, left to right.
- Match the shapes. Bacon's straight edge matches the straight line in b. The donut's round loop matches the round loop in d.
- Say it out loud. "Bacon, donut" — b, then d — every time there's a mix-up.
Why this works
Letter reversals like b/d (and p/q) are one of the most common snags for early readers. A simple, visual, repeatable trick gives their brain something concrete to hang onto instead of just "try to remember."
